Signs and Symptoms of Ear aches in children can include:
  • Earache
  • Poor hearing
  • Drainage from the ear
  • Fever

See Your Doctor if Your Child:
  • Is less than three months old
  • Has a fever above 39.5
  • There is any discharge or drainage from the ear
  • Is sleepy or weak
Home Suggestions
  1. Give your child Tylenol or Motrin for pain. Do not use Aspirin in anyone under 20 years of age.
  2. Your child can be made comfortable by putting a warm cloth on the ear for 20 minutes several times a day.
  3. Sometimes putting warm oil drops in the ear canal may give some relief. You can buy drops at the drug store or simply use mineral oil, cooking or olive oil. Heat the oil in warm water. Do not boil the water. Make sure you test the temperature of the oil drops on your skin before placing it in your child’s ear.
  4. If you are breastfeeding, do not stop, but try to nurse so the child is in an upright position.
  5. Do not expose your child to cigarette smoke.
Always See Your Doctor if You Are Concerned or Have Any Questions.
