O’Chiese First Nation TUS & Elders Meeting

O`Chiese First Nation Traditional Lands Department and the Elders had a meeting to discuss and obtain guidance on the lands consultation policy

The O’Chiese First Nation Elders and the Traditional Land Use met along with Brian McGuigan from the Eagle Law Group in the O'Chiese Community Centre to discuss O'Chiese Land Policy.

The elders and participants had much to say about the traditional land especially about sacred sites. It was a very good meeting, the elders requested a committee to do a rough draft and then the committee will go through the document word for word to get to the lengthy policy part.

The O’Chiese Traditional Land Use department requested a list of Elders available on a daily basis for the committee, an on call basis program and for elders that are able to travel for onsite consultation as some of the travel requires difficult terrain for ‘in the field’ consultation!

The meeting was held in English and in Saulteaux with interpreters to ensure effective communication. Thank you to Leslie Yellowface and Jeffrey Daychief for interpreting The meeting also had delicious food provided by the hospitality trainees. Thank you to the Elder Jerry Strawberry for the pipe ceremony.
