Already June has come and gone so quickly. With so many events, construction and meetings to plan, June just went by and already I am late writing my article. As I stated last month, our Treaty Day stands to be another success, with two ceremonies immediately after and conference for Band Managers, it did not take long for June to come and go. Awards, exams, and grads are also in this month, so congratulations to the students who will grad! Awards are hard to achieve and so congratulations to those students who received recognition for hard work in academia or their field of choice, excellent work! I say; do it again and again!!!
Holidays are also part of the next couple of months, when we become short staff however; our employees have earned their holidays in style. Our Leaders are also trying to take their time off and so the rush to get the last minute business out of the way. Therefore, between planning and meetings, we try to get the unfinished business out of the way.
I hope that members enjoyed their helicopter rides, enjoyed the piglet and for those of you who did not try the piglet, you missed out! Thank you, Kathy, Firman and all of your entourage in assisting us in the food department. Great idea, Firman! As always, Shane, you and your Department out did yourselves, thank you again. To those that assisted in keeping the grounds clean, thank you! Thank you to the photographers who joined me in taking pictures of our member’s houses and yards and good luck to the best kept yard, the date July 31, 2010, the winner will be announced. Thank you for participating and doing our part!
We still have last minute meetings and contracts to sign that Chief and Council will end their last meeting in July 2010. As construction will begin in a number of areas, Chief and Council will need to be aware of the businesses, the contractors, and the amount of expenditures before they go on holidays. A skeleton staff will be on hand and we will have a few summer students to assist in clean up, office work or construction. It is exciting to see so many events and employable opportunities that sometimes it is difficult to go on holidays.
So once again, congratulations goes out to the Operations and INAC departments for their duel planning for Treaty Day festivities and to the students who are receiving their awards, going on to the next grade and to the graduates!
It is pleasing to see the Elders, parents, and children reading, looking, and doing the activities in the newsletter. Please continue to read for your goo-kum, mo-shoom, children, and yourselves, reading and understanding what you are reading is the key to understanding, communication, and success! Newsletters can be obtained at the reception desk usually around the first week of the month. Thank you to the editor and to those who submit to the newsletter!
Respectfully, Beatrice Carpentier, O’Chiese Band Manager
